The Newport Country Club recently hosted the Annual Invitational Golf Tournament. The tournament began on Thursday, July 19th and concluded on Sunday, July 22nd. 100 teams were entered from six states including Arkansas, Texas, Missouri, Louisiana, Mississippia and Tennessee. The teams played three rounds of golf (54 holes) during the three days.

Thursday night was the Horserace. The event includes 10 teams which qualify to participate. During the Horserace tee off, Billy Keedy announced each player before they hit. When the time arrived for Chet Pinkerton, Keedy asked him to say a few words about some of his experiences in the tournament. The participants and numerous onlookers were amazed that the remarks made a surprising turn into a marriage proposal to Sally Allen. Chet Pinkerton and Sally Allen actually met during the tournament a few years ago, so what a wonderful way to ask for her to be his wife. The crowd was joyous and full of congratulations. Oh, and she said yes!!  The winners of the Horserace competition were Tommy Ford of Batesville and Mike Sattershite of Little Rock. The Runner-Up team was Elliot Sides of Newport and Trey Johnson of Hot Springs.

Friday night featured a band Souled Out from Hernando, Mississippi and a great buffet. Saturday night featured a BBQ Rib Buffett.

The tournament winners include Buchanan/Buchanan (Championship Flight), Brownd/Brownd (First Flight), Cole/Gooch (Second Flight), Brand/Tidwell (Third Flight), Treadway/Williams (Fourth Flight), Wagner/Hubbard (Fifth Flight), Harris/Anderson (Sixth Flight), Chambers/Donnell (Seventh Flight), Cooper/Ball (Eighth Flight), and Metzger/Hackney (Ninth Flight).
