Shopping changes each Christmas season worldwide, and even more so in Jackson County. Thanksgiving is behind us and the time has come to begin, or complete, the Christmas gift shopping. Great gifts can be found in Newport.

Depending on which end of town to begin, browsing all Newport offers may take longer than expected. Beginning with the store-fronts (retail establishments with actual stores), the gift of great food or treats is a nice change for the person who already has everything. MJ’s has a menu of items for every taste bud and Melissa aims to please. From casseroles, salads (the chicken salad is amazing) to pies and cakes, she can prepare a great gift for a special someone. Across the street at Bridge Salon, the gals have hair products and gift certificates for haircuts, color, highlights, spray tans and more. Across the lake is the newest restaurant, Penny’s Place. Nothing like a gift certificate for a lunch buffet to make a hungry man happy. Gilliaum Graphics and Gilliaum Feed and Seed have a tremendous amount of Christmas ideas. Since the two are housed together, gifts can include garden items as well as a one of a kind tee or hoodie to support a favorite team or special occasion. George’s Liquor on Malcolm carries a variety of wines, beer and liquors for all tastes. Hostesses love to receive a nice bottle of wine.

How about big ticket items? Houses, cars, tractors, mowers and ATVs. These can all be found in Newport. With two award-winning dealerships, Newport can have any vehicle imaginable in a matter of time. The guys at Kell Motors can also tint windows and accessorize any vehicle. Greenway equipment carries all kinds of small and large toys. Maxine makes sure there are toys for the youngsters, but for the big kids, ATVs and zero turn mowers are bountiful. With several locations, if the inventory does not have a particular item, it can be found. While the topic is close to hunting, it is important to mention the amazing hunting apparel and accessories carried by Churchman Ace and C & M Ag Depot (pictured).

For the person on the list that loves a good workout, Total Fitness memberships are available. Jeremy can set up a membership for reasonable rates and 24 hour access to the facility.

Charee’s Emporium has to many vendors to mention. This season Pink Poodle, always the newest in fashion, is located inside Charee’s directly to the right. Other vendors sell antiques and more. On the topic of fashion, Darling’s is still a Jackson County favorite for big city brands. Of course, if sunglasses are on the Christmas list, name brands such as Ray-ban and Maui Jim can be purchased at Gates Eye Care Center, Customeyes Vision in Village Mall, as well as Darlings.

Large or small, local retailers have much to offer Jackson County shoppers. Although many were mentioned in this article, there are more that are not intentionally left out. Make plans to shop local this holiday season!
