The Newport School Board was presented with a petition at the last school board meeting from M.O.S.T. requesting a meeting. After the last attempt to be placed on the agenda for a monthly meeting was denied, the group made the decision to submit a meeting request by petition of registered voters. According to M.O.S.T. Facebook page, “The school board has decided that we did not have the right to request a date, time or location for meeting with them. Therefore, they have decided that tomorrow (Tuesday, December 5th) night's meeting will not happen.” The featured photo is the letter received by M.O.S.T. explaining that according to the school board, the group must meet the criteria in the letter before allowed to address the board at the December 18th meeting.

The struggle between the Newport School Board and the members of the M.O.S.T. continues. The group has made requests of the school board for the betterment of the district, according to the group. Two of the requests, an ACT prep class and Career Coach, are being implemented. As Superintendent Larry Bennet prepares for retirement, the Newport School Board focuses on hiring the next Superintendent, as well as maintain effective relationship with community members and M.O.S.T. The next school board meeting will be December 18th at 6 pm in the Board Room of the Administration Building.
