The Newport Police Department made three arrests Monday in connection with a residential armed robbery. Mashudu Phatela, Rayvaughn Robinson and a juvenile male were arrested. The suspects have each been charged with two counts of armed robbery and theft of property. Bonds were set at $75,000 for Phatela, $50,000 for Robinson and $20,000 for the juvenile.

According to a press release by Detective Matt Duvall, the department received a 911 call of a residential armed robbery on State Street in Newport. When officers arrived, they made contact with the victim and learned that three black male suspects had entered the residence, armed with handguns and a rifle, and demanded money. The victim advised the suspects had fled before officers arrived.

During a search of the area, Officer Derrick Ratliffe located the three suspects on Johnson Street. After a brief foot pursuit, all three suspects were apprehended and a rifle that was used in the robbery was located.
