SEARCY, Ark. — Cindy Evins of Newport is one of more than 200 graduates who will receive diplomas at Harding University commencement exercises Saturday, July 30.
Graduates of the Adult Education program at ASU-Newport celebrated Tuesday evening with a commencement ceremony and reception in their honor in the Center for the Arts. Seventeen of the year’s 40 Arkansas High School Diploma (GED) recipients participated in the ceremony.
When Arkansas State University held its 2011 spring commencement Saturday, May 7, and Dr. G. Daniel Howard, interim chancellor at ASU confered degrees upon 2,000 graduates, a founder of rockabilly music was among them.
Faculty, staff, family, and friends gathered in the Center for the Arts last Friday to celebrate the success of 119 (out of 214 total graduates this year) ASU-Newport students as they crossed the stage to receive their diplomas and certificates. A record number of graduates resulted in standing room only!

Approximately 206 students will be eligible to graduate. That number includes students who completed their coursework in December and those receiving technical certificates.

ASUN student Christopher Cross was a scholarship recipient who made the journey to Berlin during Spring Break and the eight-hour flight from Memphis to Amsterdam was his very first plane ride.

In celebration of Black History Month the ASUN Student Government Association took a group of five students to the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis. Two of the students had never been to the museum. Those students who made the trip were Marcus Brooks, Christopher Cross, Taylor Mabin, JaTay Redd, and Robin Rucker. They were accompanied by ASUN Counselor Amber Grady.

The National Center for Educational Achievement (NCEA), a department of ACT, released its 2010 NCEA Higher Performing Schools List for Arkansas on its public website (www.nc4ea.org) recently. The list identifies NCEA Higher Performing Schools - those elementary, middle and high schools that have consistently outperformed their peers that serve similar student populations - and recognizes their achievement in bringing more students to college and career readiness than expected.

The Arkansas State University Board of Trustees will hold their quarterly meeting on the ASU-Newport campus tomorrow…that’s Friday, March 4…at 9am sharp. The board rotates their meetings between all of the ASU System campuses, last meeting in Newport in May 2009. The meetings are open to the public.
University of Arkansas Chancellor G. David Gearhart is proud to announce the names of the undergraduates who earned a place on the chancellor’s list for the fall 2010 semester. Students must earn a 4.0 grade point average in at least 12 hours of classes during a regular term to be named to the chancellor’s list.
