A routine traffic stop Sunday afternoon in Newport has led to drug charges against a local woman.
According to an affidavit filed by Detective Kyle Williford he was on patrol in the area of Third Street and the Mapco Station where he noticed a white car in front of him. He requested dispatch to run the license plate number which returned to another vehicle.
Upon stopping the vehicle he made contact with the male driver who advised the detective that his driver's license was suspended and that he was aware the plates were fictitious. He also advised the officer that the car was uninsured.
Det. Williford, obtaining consent to search the vehicle, made contact with a female passenger, who when asked, advised the officer that she had marijuana in her purse.
The female passenger, Falesha McDougal, was placed under arrest and a further search of her purse was performed where a glass pipe containing burnt residue believed to be marijuana was found. In addition, four plastic ziplock bags containing 20 pills each were discovered.
McDougal, advised of her Miranda Rights, waived them and told Det. Williford that the pills were Hydrocodone. Further investigation by the officer showed the pills to be Lortab 10mg Hydrocodone and 325 mg Acetaminophen, a Scheduled III controlled substance.
She was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver-Lortab, Possession of a Controlled Substance-Marijuana (First Offense) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
