One of the many new business agenda items presented in Monday evening’s monthly school board meeting was a proposal made by Albright Elementary Principal Allen Blair for the formation of single gender activity classes for grades five and six. The proposal passed unanimously with no questions for the principal from the board or the packed audience.
The board also accepted a bid from Paint Plus for the Fieldhouse painting project in the amount of $70,000. Superintendent Ronny Brown told the board that Sherwin Williams had agreed to donate the paint needed for the project.
The proposed 2010-2011 budget was accepted by the board as was the recommendation for the addition of courses to the Distance Learning Lab and the purchase of textbooks that would be needed for those courses.
In old business, the board accepted the 2009-2010 certified salary schedule, administrative/supplemental salary schedule, classified salary schedule, new and revised certified personnel policies and new and revised classified personnel policies which had been previously proposed and were submitted to the Certified PPC for approval.
According to Brown, the only thing noted by the review board was that the policy should state that a supervisor cannot evaluate a spouse or other immediate relative. Another principal would have to be obtained for the review.
During the Superintendent’s Report, Brown congratulated Darlene Black for her nomination for ASU-Newport Alumni of the Year.
He told the board and audience that the new elementary school has concrete block walls in the halls and classrooms. “We’re really excited about this, to actually see walls going up,” he said.
The superintendent also shared a number of projects that are being considered or are underway on the campuses, including paint jobs in the gym, new awnings for the fieldhouse, and floor work.
