In September 2011, Harris Hospital partnered with Apogee Physicians, one of the nation’s leading hospitalists groups. A hospitalist is a specialist in internal medicine who solely treats patients in the hospital. Uniquely, Apogee is completely owned and operated by physicians who understand the business of medicine inside and out. Hospitalists focus exclusively on hospitalized patients around the clock, ensuring optimal care and faster discharge. In case of an emergency or change in your condition you can be assured that one of Apogee’s highly qualified doctors will respond quickly and caringly. Additionally, they will provide you and your family with honest and considerate answers to your questions.
The hospitalist position has been a part of the medical profession for many years, but is growing in popularity because of the benefits for hospitals, patients and the primary care doctors for those patients; enhanced communication, personal attention, and greater continuity of care.
Because their practice focuses exclusively on the inpatient setting, hospitalists have a well-developed knowledge of other hospital departments and specialists who may e involved in patient care, as well as systems for communicating with other medical staff. Thus, hospitalists can often expedite patients’ recovery and shorten their stay in the hospital by following up on tests and regularly readjusting treatment plans. Once a patient is discharged from the hospital, the hospitalist transfers the patient’s treatment back to the primary care provider.
