Jackson County Sheriff David Lucas is announcing that he will seek re-election for a fourth term as Jackson County Sheriff. This election will be subject to the Democratic Primary in May.
Sheriff Lucas would like to say to the Citizens of Jackson County, “Serving as your Sheriff for the past five years has been an honor that I will truly cherish. I appreciate your confidence, trust and the continued support that you have shown me during my three terms as Sheriff. I am proud to serve the citizens of Jackson County and I am asking for your vote and support in the upcoming election to continue serving as your Sheriff.”
Sheriff Lucas currently sets on the Technical/Adult Education Advisory Committee with the Black River Technical College, and the Advisory Committee with Health Resources of Arkansas Prevention Resources Center. In 2007 he was elected by his fellow Sheriff’s to the Board of Directors for the North East Quadrant of the Arkansas Sheriff’s Association, and was appointed by Governor Mike Beebe to the Board of Directors for the Criminal Justice Institute in Little Rock. He is an active member of the Arkansas Sheriff’s Association and the East Arkansas Peace Officers Association, serving as President in 2005. Sheriff Lucas is also an avid supporter of the John 3:16 ministries for the rehabilitation of men with addictions.
During his tenure, Sheriff Lucas and his department have continued to be aggressive in the fight against drugs and crime, which has resulted in increased arrests for drugs and other crimes throughout Jackson County. His programs such as the inmate commissary, inmate co-pay for medical, dental, and prescription drugs, and the billing of inmates for costs incurred while incarcerated continues to save taxpayers hard earned dollars. He has continually searched and applied for grants, which has resulted in the ability to obtain thousands of dollars worth of equipment that allows his Officers to better perform their duties. In an effort to protect the children of Jackson County from being targeted by sexual predators on the Internet, Sheriff Lucas began the Internet Crimes against Children Unit. As a result of the work performed by this unit, seven arrests have been made, saving countless numbers of children from these types of offenders.
“I am very proud of the progress and accomplishments that the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department has made, and it would be an honor and privilege to continue our efforts in making Jackson County a safe place to live and raise our families. Again, I would like to ask for your vote of confidence, to allow me to continue the progress being made and serve a fourth term as your Sheriff.”
