Joyce Cloud Mears passed away April 20, 2018

Joyce Cloud Mears, 77, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family and friends on Friday, April 20, 2018.  Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Alberta Cloud, her loving husband, Carrol Dee Mears, her brothers, D.A. Cloud and Jerry Cloud, and sisters, Shirlene Trotter and Bernice Neely.  Joyce was born on April 30, 1940 in Tyronza, Arkansas, but spent her entire life in the Grubbs and Newport Communities.

Joyce was a member of the 1958 graduating class of Grubbs High School and an active member of the Grubbs Church of Christ where she dedicated 50 years of her life teaching classes and worshiping with her wonderful church family. 

Joyce is survived by her sisters, Kathryn Jones of Harrisburg, Mary Lynn Woodruff of Lake City,  and brothers, Danny Cloud of Newport and Gary Cloud of Batesville.

She also leaves behind to cherish her memory, four children who adored her; Lesa Mears (Rita) of Memphis, Dana Shelley (Scott) of Balch, Scott Mears (Dusty) of Newport, and Travis Mears (Melissa) of Valley View.  She leaves behind wonderful memories shared with her 9 grandchildren; Philip Mears, Julian White, Summer Shelley, Kaeton Dee (Kim), Autumn, Anna and Cullen Mears (Bailey) and Maddie and Michayla Mears.  Joyce also leaves behind a soon-to-be great-granddaughter, Paislee Nichole Mears.  Joyce was also a loving aunt to 25 nieces and nephews.

Joyce was a devoted wife and mother and worked in the banking business in Jonesboro and Newport.  After retiring from the Employment Security Division, she was active with the Senior Circle and People Helping People.  Joyce enjoyed line dancing with friends, but her favorite times were spent with family celebrating reunions, birthdays and holidays.  Joyce was a lifelong fan of the Grubbs Bluejays, St. Louis Cardinals and Arkansas Razorbacks.

Friends may visit at the funeral home, Monday, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.  Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel, with interment following in Walnut Grove Cemetery. 

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Scott Mears, Travis Mears, Kaeton Dee Mears, Cullen Mears, Scott Shelley, Lynn Bradley, Danny Cloud, and Gary Cloud.

Following the graveside, everyone is invited to join the family in “A Special Celebration of Life” to honor Joyce at the People Helping People Building Highway 14 E, Amagon, Arkansas
