Polly Nicholson Sharp passed away July 6, 2018
Polly Nicholson Sharp passed into paradise on Friday, July 6, 2018 to wait for her Savior, Jesus Christ. Polly was the daughter of Neal and Ruby Nicholson. She was preceded in death by Gene Sharp, her beloved husband of over 50 years; a loved sister Doris Nicholson Williams and two nephews Jimbo Williams and David King.
She is survived by four sons Eddie Neal Sharp (Karen), Ray Ford Sharp, Eugene Christopher Sharp, Jr., and James D. Nicholson Sharp (Nicole); two grandsons Neal Nicholson Sharp and David Ray Sharp; step-grandchildren Summer George; Cammy and Carol; and Joseph, Julian, Jonathon, Chloe and Cora. She is also survived by her sister; Patsy Nicholson King (Carroll) and her family; Billy, Michelle, Hanna, Jason, Nicki (Matt), Darby, and Delilah; her niece; Maggy Williams Sutherland and her family; Tyler, Kristy, Sam, Summer, Mila Jo and Sydney; her nephew; Brandon Williams, a special care-giver; Crissy Morrison and special sister-in-law; June Sullivan (Dub), and special friends; Jeanine Walton and Connie Waters.
As an active lifetime member of the Newport Disciples of Christ First Christian Church, Polly was an Elder, taught Sunday School and Children’s time and held various state offices in the Arkansas Disciples Women Organization.
Polly graduated from Newport High School in 1954. She stayed in touch with and remained friends with her classmates over the years and helped organize many school reunions. She hosted a small reunion in her home in November of 2017.
After 33 years of service, Polly retired from Kroger in 2001. She enjoyed gathering with the “Old” Kroger retirement bunch periodically.
Polly was an active member of many local organizations; Newport Newcomers Club, ASUN Patron Series, IMRAC, Keep Newport Beautiful, White River Garden Club, and she was a worker for CASA.
Playing Mah Jong with her friends Sue Grady, Pam Decker, Pat Shoffner, Lynne McCook and Sue McClain was something she loved to do. For years, she also loved to spend time with a group of friends called “The Tea Ladies”: Helen Bullard, Pat Mann, Geri Pratt, Debra (Bennett) Jackson, Sandy Honey, Nell Farrow, Judy Smith, Cathy Shaw and Carolyn Mason.
The family would like to thank Arkansas Hospice-Batesville for the wonderful care and love they provided for Polly.
Friends may visit at Dillinger Funeral Home in Newport from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2018.
