Emogene Morris passed away October 13, 2018

Miss Emogene Morris of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life at her home in Newport on Saturday, October 13, 2018, at the age of 103.  She was born July 20, 1915, in Tupelo, the daughter of Thomas Alfred and Blanche (Oliver) Morris.

            Miss Morris retired from the United States Postal Service after 38 years of service as a postal clerk; and was a member of the Retired Postal Workers Association.    She loved to travel all over the United States with friends and family.  Miss Morris was an avid reader, and enjoyed her membership in the sewing circle at Jackson County Library. 

 She was a beloved member of the community, and her 100th birthday was a town celebration.  Miss Morris was a kind woman, who will be remembered as a second mother, grandmother, great-grandmother to all her nieces and nephews.

She was a faithful member of the Umsted Methodist Church, where she played the piano for over 33 years.  Miss Morris was deeply devoted to the church and her church family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Charles A. Morris and William Thomas “Bill” Morris; one sister, Helen V. Morris.

Miss Morris is survived by two nieces, Marcia Thomas and husband, Mark, of Concord, Massachusetts and Kathy Shelton and husband, John, of Bells, Tennessee; three great-nieces, Jennifer Thomas of Concord, Massachusetts, Jennifer Lawley of New Braunfels, Texas, and Rebecca Wilson and husband, Eric, of Denver, Colorado; one great-great niece, Emogene Wilson of Denver, Colorado; and two great-great nephews, Alex Lawley and Ben Lawley, both of New Braunfels, Texas; her special caregiver and friend, Kathy Jackson of Newport, Arkansas; her other caregivers, D.D. Copeland, Polly McAdams, and Ludie Tidwell; and a lifetime of friends.

Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 19, 2018, at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Ed Morris officiating.  Interment will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
