Dorothy Rogers, 79, of Springdale, formerly of Grubbs, departed this life on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at Circle of Life Hospice, Springdale. She was born September 14, 1930 at Pond Switch, Arkansas to Cecil Elmo and Madge Pearl Smith.
Dorothy married Jimmy Rogers sixty-one years ago and became a military wife for a few years. When her husband left the Army, they moved back to Grubbs and she became a farmer’s wife.
She kept the books for the farm and helped during both planting and harvest time.
She worked for the postal service for ten years, and together with her husband was treasurer for the First Baptist Church of Grubbs for thirty years.
Dorothy loved working in her flower beds and garden, reading the Bible, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
In 2004 they moved to Springdale to be close to their family. Preceding her in death are her son, Jimmy Douglas Rogers; her parents; three sisters, Betty Jo Smith, Armelda Stover, and Sara Gentry; and two brothers, James Leon and Elmo “Sonny” Smith.
Dorothy is survived by her loving husband, Jimmy D. Rogers of Springdale; one daughter, DeAnn Proffitt and husband Mark of Springdale; one grandson, Jeremy Proffitt of Clermont, Florida; two granddaughters, Charissa Napier and husband Timmy of Prairie Grove, Arkansas and Tamyra Proffitt of Springdale; and four great-grandchildren, Aspen, Khloe, Quinton, and Cash Napier of Prairie Grove, Arkansas.
Funeral services are 1:00 p.m. Monday at Grubbs First Baptist Church with burial at Ballew’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday, 2:00-5:00 p.m.
