Ms. Lula M. Armstrong, 54, of Newport, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010 at Lindley Health & Rehab in Newport.  She was born July 28, 1955 in Weldon, the daughter of the late Curtis and Dolly Thomas.
She was a member of the True Worshippers Church in Newport and worked for Home Health Services.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Gene Autry Taylor of Detroit, Mich., and Levert Thomas of Jonesboro; and one son, Lavoyd Armstrong.
She is survived by one son, Leslie Armstrong of Newport; two daughters, Latashe Armstrong of Newport, and Kamyesia Payton of Diaz; four brothers, James Thomas of Philadelphia, Pa., Eugene Thomas of Augusta, Monroe Thomas of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Jimmy L. Thomas of Marietta, Ga.; eight sisters, Delores Collins of Chicago, Ill., Margaret Goode of Little Rock, Josephine Brown of Jonesboro, Beatrice Armstrong of Newport, Willie M. Walker of Memphis, Tenn., Dianne Green of Snellville, Ga., Inez Johnson of Minneapolis, Minn., and Lucille Thomas of Dallas, Ga.; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010 at 12 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Newport with Elder Robert Brown officiating.  Interment followed at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Shoffner.  Visitation was held Friday, Jan. 8, 2010 from 4-6 p.m. at Taylor and Kimbrough Funeral Home.
Her nephews served as Pallbearers.
