Mr. Lohnes “Tommy” Tiner, Jr., of Newport died Monday, June 29, 2009.  He was born Jan. 6, 1962 in Jonesboro, the son of Lohnes Tiner, Sr., and Wilma (Nicholson) Tiner.
Tommy was a farmer, specializing in rice farming.  He was a man who enjoyed nature, the outdoors, and was an avid quail hunter.  Tommy loved his family, especially his three children who were the pride of his life, and his only sister.  He was baptized in the First Christian Church at Newport.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Wilma (Nicholson) Tiner; and an infant brother, Steven Wayne Tiner.
Tommy is survived by the love of his life, Janet Marchand Tiner of Newport; three children whom he adored, Shelley Marchand Tiner, Amy Nicole (Tiner) Boyd and husband, Jonathan, and William Nicholson “Will” Tiner,  all of Newport; his father and stepmother, Lohnes T. Tiner, Sr. and Margaret (Gray) Tiner of Harrisburg; one sister, Nicci Tiner of Little Rock; and one half-sister, Shirley Stevenson and husband, Bill, of Duncan, Okla.   
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2009 at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Lou Butterfield and Rev. Eddie Passmore officiating.  Interment will be in Balch-Johnston Cemetery. Visitation was Wednesday, July 1, 2009 from 6-9 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Larry Mills, Arvil Jones, Scott Eckert, Sam Nicholson, Jimmy Don Nicholson, Heath George, Cris Driver, and Joby Driver.  Honorary Pallbearers will be the B and G Agri Crew.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 901 E. Street NW, Suite 500, Washington, DC 20004.
