Mr. Paul Daniel Tinsley of Newport, departed this life Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, at the age of 78.  He was born Jan. 28, 1933, in Swifton, the son of Calvin and Pearl (Sneed) Tinsley.  He married Miss Mary Masters Dec. 26, 1951, and they have enjoyed 60 years together.
Mr. Tinsley’s love of cars became both his hobby and his life’s work. He owned and operated Paul’s Lion Service Station for 10 years during the 1950’s and Tinsley Auto Sales for over 50 years.  During his years in the car business, he helped many people buy their first car and assisted many during hard times to purchase a car they needed.  He enjoyed not only selling cars, but, was an enthusiastic collector of antique cars.  Mr. Tinsley loved spending time outdoors at the lake boating and trout fishing.  He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed westerns.  He spent many good times in the company of friends drinking coffee at what was referred to as the “round table” a group which began over 50 years ago at Punch’s Restaurant.
Mr. Tinsley’s greatest love and enjoyment came from spending time with his family.  They enjoyed many trips together in the family RV, where when asked how long to a destination, his reply was always, “about an hour.”  Mr. Tinsley’s deep love and devotion to his family was evident as he shared all of his hobbies with them, spending hours at the lake, boating, fishing, and just being together.  He shared a special bond with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  Mr. Tinsley will be sorely missed by his close-knit family and his many friends in Jackson County.
Mr. Tinsley was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and Taylor Tinsley; one sister, Irene Tinsley; and his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Tinsley of the home; three children, Mike Tinsley and wife, Angela, of Jonesboro, Becky Mooney and husband, Jerry, of Mountain Home, and Jim Tinsley and wife, Sara, of Jonesboro; 10 grandchildren, Justin Tinsley and wife, Kelli, of Kennesaw, Ga., Paul Tinsley and wife, Brandy, of Maumelle, Aaron Tinsley of Jonesboro, Brian Mooney and wife, Rachel, of Mountain Home, Brad Mooney of Fayetteville, Matt Tinsley and wife, Andrea, of Katy, Texas, Adam Tinsley and wife, Brittany, of Jonesboro, Beth Lovins and husband, Leif, of Jonesboro, Rebecca Tinsley of Jonesboro, and Ben Tinsley of Jonesboro; six great-grandchildren, Mary Claire and Whitney Rose Tinsley of Maumelle, William and Nathan Mooney of Mountain Home, Madeline Tinsley of Katy, Texas, and Austin Tinsley of Jonesboro; one brother, James Tinsley and wife, Joan, of Swifton and a lifetime of friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Don Blackmore officiating.  Entombment was in Cheshier Cemetery.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Kenneth Grady, Dean Sides, Mike Brand, Jim Bishop, Johnny McGuire, and Ricky Horton.  Honorary Pallbearers were Bill Fortune, Gene Ivy, Tommy Clark, Maurice Odom, Ed Michaels, Bill Phillips, Jessie Simmons, and all his coffee shop buddies.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, The Learning Center of Jonesboro, or John 3:16 Ministry.
