Susan K. McCartney Fisher, 91, (born March 6, 1918) of Paragould, died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
Mrs. Fisher was preceded in death by her parents, J.W. and Gladys Keesee; two brothers, John Keesee, Ferd Keesee; one sister, Martha Sylar; and husbands, Vaughn McCartney and Ted Fisher.
She is survived by one son, William Vaughn “Bill” McCartney, his wife, Sheila; and one granddaughter, Elizabeth Susan “Beth” McCartney, all of Paragould.
Mrs. Fisher served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a WAVE. For 37 years she was a teacher and counselor, work that she dearly loved. She began her teaching career in Elaine, then on to Marianna School District, Newport High School, Helena-West Helena Schools and Greene County Tech Junior High School. Mrs. Fisher was a Methodist.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 16, 2009 at Mitchell Funeral Chapel, Paragould, with Tom Letchworth officiating. Burial followed in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Newport.
Visitation was Friday, Oct. 16, 2009 from 9 a.m. until service time at Mitchell Funeral Home.
