Mr. Billy Joe Simons, 73, of Newport died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009 at Jonesboro. He was born Nov. 9, 1935 in Harrisburg, the son of Charlie and Bessie Simons.
Mr. Simons was a scrap yard owner and operator, and enjoyed fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Vestal Simons and J.R. Simons; and one sister, Betty Sue Fox.
Mr. Simons is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Inez (Wright) Simons of Newport; two sons, Boyce Simons of Jonesboro and Joe Simons and wife, Bonnie, of Newport; two daughters, Tillie Tims of Newport, and Lora Arnold of Newport; one brother, Ray Simons of Newport; three sisters, Geneva Simons of Newport, Joyce Dunn of Newport, and Verna Mae Summers of Macks; three grandchildren, Sonny Simons, Christie Holt, and Pam Simons; and one great-grandchild, R.J. Simons.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009 at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Balch-Johnston Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 23, 200 from 6-9 p.m.
