The Newport Greypups successfully defeated the Osceola Jr. High Seminoles Thursday, October 26th. The 12-0 win sealed an undefeated season and Conference Championship for the Greypups. This is the first undefeated season in many years. Under Head Coach Mark McGee, the Greypups acquired 2,648 yards total offense and 37 touchdowns this season. The teams outscored opponents 292-78.  “I appreciate all the compliments from the community,” states Head Greypup Coach Mark McGee. “I am happy to get paid to do something that I love to do.”
Many moments are captured through the lens of Alton Walker’s camera. He has a gift that captures the heart of Newport. “These Greypups have had to be mentally strong and preserve knowing that one of their brothers, a teammate and classmate is in a tremendous fight to recovery,” states Walker.  “This group did not wavier, they did not fret, and they did not lose hope. They listened to instruction, subdued their fears and finished strong!”
The team travelled to Osceola for the final game of the season. Playing on the road, especially a team like the Seminoles on their home turf, is a struggle. The Greypups fought to the end and were victorious . The offense and defense worked hard from the first second to the last. The offense had a total of 218 yards. Rushing leaders include Eli Alcorn with 15 carries for 120 yards and two touchdowns, Tharon Davis with seven carries for 62 yards and two “very questionable” fumbles, and Jadarius Reed with two carries for 14 yards. Quarterback Eli Alcorn went 2/4 for 22 yards passing. Receiving leaders include T. Davis with one 1 reception, and J. Reed with one reception for 22 yards. The offense was flagged with eight penalties for 75 yards.
Defensively, the Greypups played lights out. The Mad Dogs were responsible for 37 tackles. Leaders include Jakevyin Davis with 8 tackles, Jadarius Reed with eight tackles, one forced tumble and a fumble recovery, Tharon Davis with six tackles and one interception, Tyler Johnson with three tackles and one sack, Chris Reynolds with two tackles and two interceptions, Larry Culclager, Evan Solis, and Eli Alcorn with two tackles each. Jagger Robinson, Weston Henderson, and Cayden Johnson were responsible for one tackles each. The defense was flagged with four defensive penalties for a total of 50 yards.
The fight on Thursday night was a great witness to the character and grit of these Greypups. “Success is defined by not what we do, but how we do it.  These boys won football games as a result of doing things the right way on and off the field. They are becoming good people. Good always shines through adversity,” states McGee.
