The Newport Greyhound track teams travelled to Bald Knob for the 3A-2 District Track Meet on Tuesday, April 24th. Members of both teams qualified for the state meet in Jessieville, Arkansas. The meet was held on Tuesday, May 1st. (The results of the state meet were not available at the time of print).

            Lady Hound Taniya Kenner Kenner won 1st place in the 400M with a time of 1:02 and finished 2nd in the 200M with a time of 27.37. She is the only member of the Girls Track team to qualify for the state meet. She will compete in the 400M Dash.

            The Newport Greyhounds definitely have speed. Senior Oshae Pruitt placed 2nd at the district meet in the 100M Dash with a time of 11.66. The 4x100M Relay, which includes Junior Mitchell Thomas, Junior James Dixon, Senior Oshae Pruitt and Senior Tydrell Friar won 1st place with a time of 44.97. The Friar brother’s placed in different individual events. Tydrell Friar won 2nd place in the 200M Dash with a time of 23.41 and Takalon Friar placed 2nd in the Long Jump at 19’05 inches. The 4x100M Relay and Takalon Friar in the Long Jump will compete at the state meet.
