The Newport Girls Volleyball season is in full swing. Both the junior and senior high teams travelled to Palestine on Monday, August 27th. The scores for the games were 16-25, 25-23, 25-15 and 25-19. The teams travel to Trumann tonight. Game time 4:30 pm.

The game against Palestine was very intense for volleyball. Newport played hard and came back to win the game. “I was super proud of the team and how they came back and worked together to win. We played really well together,” states Head Coach Jordan Doyle.

Several players stood out during the games against Palestine. “Chloe Hardaway really showed out in the last two ball games with how well she played at the net, both blocking and hitting. Jessa Long came in clutch with great hustle on the back row. Jessa will throw her body around like it doesn’t even hurt,” laughs Doyle. “Anna Jackson really stepped up to play a position she hasn’t played in a while, setter. Jimena Macias made some great serves that really pulled us through.” In addition, Doyle mentioned Madalyn Smith, Kayla Fite, Kaylee Wells, and Lucy Hernandez as players that performed well all the way around.

After a recent game, the team stopped at Chick-fil-a on the return trip home. A nice woman, pictured with the team, let them know she had seen many groups of students come in, but the Newport girls impressed her by being so well-mannered. “They were polite kids, plain and simple,” she told the coaches.
