The Newport Greyhounds hosted the Manilla Lions on Friday, October 12th. The evening was full of activity. The evening’s theme was Pink Out to show support for breast cancer awareness, lift up those who won the fight and honor those who battled, but lost. In addition, the annual Alumni Game took place before the game. The Alumni game is hosted by the Class of 1997.

            The Hounds beat the Lions 56-6. The Hounds scored 21 points in the first quarter with eight successful PAT’s by # 19 Rolondo Noguez. # 2 Tharon Davis scored first on a 97 yard rush touchdown. The next two touchdowns of the quarter were by # 5 Clemmie Alcorn. One was a 17 yard rushing touchdown and the other a 43 yard pass from # 16 Quarterback Cash Forrester. The Hounds scored twice in the second quarter. Both rushing touchdowns by Davis and Alcorn. The score was 35-6 at the half.

            The Hounds returned after halftime without losing momentum. Davis scored on a 14 yard rush and # 4 Monquell Cox on a five yard run. The quarter ended with a 49-6 lead by the Hounds. Clemmie Alcorn scored the final touchdown of the evening in the fourth quarter on a 24 yard pass from # 18 Gavin Tarwater.

            Statistically, the Greyhounds had 25 first downs, 31 rushes for 386 yards and completed 12 of 18 receptions for 151 yards. Rushing leaders include # 2 Tharon Davis with nine carries for 173 and three touchdowns, # 4 Monquell Cox with ten carries for 130 yards and a touchdown, # 5 Clemmie Alcorn with seven carries for 68 yards and two touchdowns and # 16 Cash Forrester with two carries for 10 yards. Passing leaders were Forrester 8 of 14 for 116 yards and one touchdown and Tarwater 4 for 4 for 35 yards and one touchdown. Receiving leaders were Clemmie Alcorn with three receptions for 99 yards and # 8 Chris Reynolds with five receptions for 37 yards.

            The defense accumulated 44 tackles. Defensive leaders include Clemmie Alcorn with six tackles, # 32 Julius Pruitt with four tackles and an assit, # 10 Spencer Murphy with four tackles and an assist, # 56 Spencer Mullinax with four tackles, Tharon Davis with two tackles and an assist and # 70 Dalton Phillips with two tackles and an assist.

            The Greyhounds travel to Corning tomorrow night to take on the Bobcats. Game time is 7 pm. Make plans to attend. If unable to attend, other options include downloading the Sudbury Sports App as well as watching the game on Cable 15 on Saturday 9 am.
