As Greyhound Football Season comes to a close, I like to think I saved one of the best for last. Hunter Shelton has a great demeanor and infectious personality. Hunter wears # 61 because his “big brother” Nick Murphy, a former Greyhound, wore it. Many players like to carry on the number of a favorite player that came before them. Hunter plays nose and right tackle for the Hounds and gives 100% every single day. According to Offensive Coordinator Jon Bradley, “Hunter shows up every day and works hard. He has been one of those players that has continued to work in effort to get on the field.”
As we talk about the team, he admits that Head Coach Mark Hindsley is his favorite on staff. Hunters smiles with appreciation as he comments, “Coach Hindsley constantly stays on me about grades or missing practice. I look up to him.” When asked about Hunter, Coach Hindsley answered, “Hunter is a guy that has continued to work hard every day. He is always positive and always supporting the Hounds anywhere he goes.” His favorite teammate is Zane Watkins. “Zane keeps me laughing, but will set me straight if I he needs to,” laughs Hunter. His most memorable game was against Walnut Ridge. “We weren’t playing as hot as we needed to and Coach Hindsley fixed that during half time.”
Academically, Mrs. Candice Long is special to Hunter. Hunter tells that History is his favorite subject and it is taught by Long. “She pushes me and makes me try my hardest. I cannot thank her enough.” He plans to attend UACCB in Batesville after graduation and enter the HVAC program and then apprentice.
Where does Hunter see himself in ten years? “Hopefully I will be married and have my own heating and air conditioning business.”
