Newport Basketball season is in full swing with the beginning of conference play. The Greyhounds have a complete roster now with the end of football season. The Hounds Thursday, November 29th against August, winning 78-71. Soon after, the team took Runner-Up in the White County Central Tournament after a loss to Rivercrest 83-72. The Hounds and Lady Hounds travelled north and played the Tuckerman Bulldogs on Tuesday, December 4th and suffered a loss of 72-44. “We have had a solid start to the season so far. I have seen some good things from our guys and we hope to keep working and improving,” states Head Coach Brandon Gates.

Lady Hounds played Thursday, November 29th against Palestine-Wheatley for a conference win, 57-40. Coming off a 5-0 winning streak, the team had two conference losses, Friday, November 30th against Bald Knob, 72-46 and Tuesday, December 4th against Tuckerman, 63-41. “We started strong, with a 5-0 start averaging eight three-pointers a game. Unfortunately, we lost our last two games in a row. If we want to continue to have a winning season, we must shoot well and consistently from the outside while also getting stops and force turnovers,” states Lady Hound Head Coach Victoria Atchley.

The Hounds play at home Thursday, December 7th against Harrisburg. Games begin at 5 pm.
