“Sustain economy, attract residents, and create a quality of life that is good for the people of Newport. That is the bottom-line of Keep Newport Beautiful,” said Carole Ann Young, Executive Director of KNB.
KNB was recently re-established and is an affiliate of Keep Arkansas Beautiful and Keep America Beautiful.
“We have lots of great ideas for Newport.  The secret to the success of KNB is engaging the community and by community we mean schools, civic organizations, our government officials, scout troops, colleges, talents and passions of the people of Newport.”
She continued, “Everyone has to come together.  When everyone comes together then we can multiply the impact of our actions. So far we have started with four committees, Beautification, Recycle, Education, and Ordinance Committee but we are not limited to just these.”
Young adds that “KNB will assume any idea can and will be done as long as there are volunteers. We want to think ‘Where can we do it NOT don’t know if we can do it..’”
The newly re-established Keep Newport Beautiful Commission is wasting no time beginning their quest for Newport.
“Our first project is already underway,” Young said, “KNB pledges to plant 500 daffodils this fall around our community.  Not just this year but we hope to do another 500 next year. This is a gift that can keep on giving to the people of Newport.”
Young stated that it has been proven beauty is not just good for your physical surroundings but for your mind and spirit as well.
“If your passion is flowers then please come out and help with this project.”  Young stated to watch for the volunteer date soon.
“Also, a few other things we are planning is improving the gateway into our city and possibly creating ordinances and enforcing ordinances already in existence.”
She continued, “We hope to educate our children, businesses and the people of Jackson County on litter and the affects of litter. We want to encourage business owners to get involved by cleaning up around there business structure.  Residents can get involved by cleaning up there residences.”
“All we know is America’s beauty can be anywhere we make it and we want to make it here in Newport. Watch the community calendar for meeting dates.  Everyone is invited to attend these meetings.”
