Over an hour long pursuit covering three counties and involving six law enforcement agencies resulted in the arrest of a Strawberry, AR. man.
At 1:24 P.M. Saturday afternoon, February 10th.  Newport Officer Kenneth Eubanks conducted a traffic stop on a green ford F-150 on North State Street in Newport.  Driver Richard Cobb, 53, of Strawberry had an absconder warrant from Arkansas Community Corrections and when Officer Eubanks went to make contact with Cobb he placed the vehicle in drive and fled the location.
Newport unity requested Jackson County units to assist when the suspect traveled toward Highway 69.  After turning into Diaz on Highway 18, he fled north on Highway 17 toward Tuckerman, where Tuckerman Police and the Arkansas Game and Fish joined the pursuit. State Police unit responded as well as Independence and Lawrence County units and other local departments.  Spike strips were deployed, but the fleeing driver was able to avoid them.
The pursuit, which crossed Independence and Lawrence County lines numerous times, ended in a field in Lawrence County where Cobb drove as far as he could, abandoned his vehicle and ran through a wooded area and into a set of nearby chicken houses.  Cobb was taken into custody without incident.
Cobb is being held in the Jackson County Detention Center on the absconder warrant and will be facing additional charges from the pursuit.
