Walter B. “Pete” Norris passed away March 24, 2018

Walter B. “Pete” Norris, 75, of Weiner joined his heavenly Father on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. Walter was born February 28, 1943 in Weiner, where he spent the majority of his life. He was an active member of the Weiner Christian Church where he served in many roles as a leader of the Church and an Elder. Walter spent many years working with the youth of Weiner Christian Church as well as the community youth as one of the founding members of the LIFE group. Walter was proud of his military service as a member of the United States Navy stationed on the USS Mars serving during the Vietnam War. Walter was a farmer for many years of his life, until going to work for the City of Weiner where he served the community for over 20 years. Walter spent time serving the communities of Grubbs and Weiner as a volunteer Fire Fighter and 18 years as the West Prairie Constable. Walter also served Weiner community 20 years as Caretaker/Treasurer of the Walker Cemetery.  One of his favorite activities was spending time outdoors, on the lake, or in the woods with his brothers and grandchildren. Walter is survived by his soulmate of 50 years, Mary Norris, of the home, his two daughters: Cindy (David) Needham and Kathryn McKay, both of Weiner. He was especially proud of his grandchildren: Drew Norris of Greenbrier, Shana McClour of Weiner, Garrison (Lyndsey) McClour of Wynne, Taylor (Kodi) Ozbun, Brant Ozbun, and Abram Ozbun  all of Weiner. His most recent pride and joy were his great-grandchildren: Ella Henderson and Jax Ozbun. He is survived by one brother, Bill (Elwanda) Norris of Jonesboro and one sister, Marie (Leon) Tidwell of Jacksonport, sisters-in-law: Paulette Norris of Weiner, Ann Norris and Jennie Norris both of Grubbs, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. They loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents: Ernest “Sneed” and Lucy (Cox) Norris, five brothers: Buddy, Marvin, John, Bobby, and Ralph Norris, three sisters: Martha James, Virginia Mae Adamson, and Dorothy Rorex Thorn. He was also preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Jeremiah Ozbun and Vernon McKay. Visitation will be Monday evening at Weiner Christian Church from 5:00 until 8:00 P. M. A Celebration of his life will be held Tuesday morning at the church at 10:00 A.M. with Rick Green and Mitch Ford officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Walker Cemetery. Walter’s grandchildren will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Elders and Deacons of Weiner Christian Church, members of the Weiner Fire Department, Jimmy Chatman, Willie Moore, Myra Schwartz, S P Schwartz, Todd Bartholomew, Jack Pace, Phillip Craft, Curt Guthrie, and Peggy Booth. A special thank you is extended to Arkansas Home Hospice and the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice for their loving care and compassion.
