Mae Alice (Willhoite) Pingel passed away May 17, 2018

Mrs. Mae Alice (Willhoite) Pingel of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at the age of 93.  She was born November 15, 1924 in Cornell, Illinois, the daughter of Byron Phillip and Frances (Gregory) Willhoite.

Mrs. Pingel was a homemaker and loving mother, who devoted her life to raising her children.  She enjoyed making ceramics, raising flowers, making and sharing Christmas candy and cookies, and especially spending time traveling the country for visits with her family.  She gave generously of her time, volunteering over 15 years for the Harris Hospital Auxiliary. Mrs. Pingel was a member of First Christian Church in Newport many years, serving as a worship leader, and an Elder.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, John Leslie Pingel, Sr.; two sons-in-law, Earl M. “Buddy” Black, Jr., and Carl Ray Kimble; one brother, Byron Bill Willhoite; one sister, Frances Slagel; and her parents.

Mrs. Pingel is survived by one son, John Leslie Pingel, Jr., and wife, Lorraine, of Campbell, California; four daughters, Sue Morrow of Newport, Judy Hawkins and husband, Everett, of Sequim, Washington, Jayne Black of Newport, and Barbara Gephart and husband, Richard, of San Diego, California; one sister, Betsy Davis of Illinois; eight grandchildren, Alice, Leslie, Kelly, Jennifer, John III, Christine, Alan, and Michael; fourteen great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a lifetime of friends.

The family of Mrs. Pingel will hold a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Baptist Church.

Those honored to serve as honorary pallbearers are the Unity Health – Harris Medical Center Pink Ladies.
