Dr. Fred W. Holk, of Heber Springs, Arkansas departed this life on Friday, March 1, 2019, at the age of 84.  He was born December 10, 1934, in Foley, Alabama, the son of George and Eva (Walker) Holk.

  Mr. Holk was a graduate of Foley High School.  Dr. Holk received his under graduate degree and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University. He loved and supported the University of Auburn.  Dr. Holk owned and operated the Newport Animal Clinic from 1962 until 1988. He owned and operated the Honey Grove Animal Clinic in Honey Grove, Texas from 1990 until 1996.  After retiring from his business, he was employed by the USDA as a federal food inspector. Dr. Holk’s hobbies included fishing, hunting, cooking and telling tall tales.   He loved spending time with his family.  He was of Methodist belief.

    Dr. Holk was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Flippin Holk in 1991, five brothers, David Holk, Harvey Holk, Floyd Holk, George Holk, and Herbert Holk.

    Dr. Holk is survived by his wife of forty six years, Patricia (Keel) Holk; one son, Douglas Bland and wife, Elizabeth, of Chadds Ford, PA; two daughters, Susanna Holk of Jonesboro and Cynthia Bland Fields of Heber Springs; two brothers, Richard Holk of Sargentville, ME, and Arthur Holk of Magnolia Springs, AL; six grandchildren, Jonathan Burgin and wife, Brooke, Bryan Neal and wife, Rachel, of Conway, Jacob Neal and wife, Allie, of Jonesboro, Davis Bland of Chadds Ford, PA, and Stuart Bland of Chadds Ford, PA, Thomas Flippin Holk, Jr. of Brewer, ME; one great granddaughter, Audrey Grace Burgin of Conway; many nieces and nephews and a lifetime of friends.

Survivors: wife, Patricia; children, Douglas Bland (Elizabeth), Susanna Holk, and Cynthia Fields; six grandchildren, Jonathan, Bryan, Jacob, Davis, Stuart, Thomas; great granddaughter, Audrey Grace; two brothers.
