FAS Hounds began on Monday, July 9th for any student athlete, grades seventh through twelfth, who attend Newport School District. FAS Hounds is a two week jump start to the 2018 Athletic Season. Football players make up the majority of the participants with Senior High at 7 am, Junior High at 8 am and Female athletes at 9 am. FAS Hounds is two week training with a focus on fundamentals, agility, and speed. The two weeks begins after the two week dead period sanctioned by the Arkansas Activities Association. After FAS Hounds, the Greyhounds begin pre-season practice. The orange helmets have rested long enough in the player lockers and are ready for the gridiron.
During the two weeks of FAS Hounds, the players adjust to the heat of the summer days, stretch and strengthen the muscles that take the hits during season, and practice the fundamentals of the game.
According to Hooten’s, the Greyhounds are predicted to be 3-3A Conference Champions this season above Osceola, Hoxie, Walnut Ridge, Piggott, Harrisburg, Manila and Corning. The Hounds are ranked eighth in Arkansas Class 3A. Alex Emery is listed by Hooten’s as part of the 2018 Super Team for 3A. Go Hounds!
