Newport Basketball hosted Harrisburg on Friday, December 7th for three games; Jr. High Greypups, Sr. Lady Hounds and Sr. High Greyhounds. The games began at 5 pm in the NHS Fieldhouse.

            The Jr. High Greypups started the evening with a win over the Hornets 58-20. The Pups jumped ahead of Harrisburg 17-8 in the first quarter and never looked back. Harrisburg was unable to put up more than single digits in each quarter. In the second quarter Newport put up another 18 points, which ended the half 35-11. The Greypups returned after the half and never let up. Newport put up another 18 points in the third quarter and four in the last quarter. The Pups defeated Harrisburg by 35 points! High scorers were Eli Alcorn (8), Dejai Marshall (8), Jadarius Reed (6), and Kylan Ellis (4).

Next up, the Lady Hounds fell 69-51 to Harrisburg. The game remained close throughout the first and second quarters. At the end of the first quarter, Newport trailed by only three points. At halftime, the score was Harrisburg 30, Newport 29. Harrisburg was able to pull ahead in the third quarter by outscoring the Lady Hounds by 12 points. The Lady Hounds were unable to narrow the gap in the final quarter of the game and suffered the conference loss. High scorers were Taniya Kenner (13), Hanah Curtis (14) and Alicia Neal (10)

The Greyhounds jumped ahead early in the final game of the evening, 22-2. The first quarter set the tone for the remainder of the game. The Hounds put up another 27 points in the second half, which made the half time score 49-13. After the half, the Hounds scored another 22 points before calling off the dogs. The final score of the game was Newport 75, Harrisburg 39. High Scorers included Jarius Dean (13), Lucky Loftis (12), and Omar Harris (10).

Newport hosts Jonesboro Westside tonight beginning with the 7th grade girls, followed by the Jr. High Greypups and the Lady Hounds (JV). Game time 5 pm. Pictured is Isaiah Kendall by Alton Walker.
